On April 6, Most Ven. Jinwoo, the president of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, awarded certificates of support to the winners of the “Sustainable Public Value NGO Project Competition,” which was co-organized by the Order’s Social Affairs Office and Dreaminus. During the ceremony, he recognized and encouraged their compassionate work within society.
The president of the Jogye Order personally presented certificates to 14 organizations, including welfare centers and NGOs, in the reception room on the fourth floor of the Korean Buddhist History and Culture Memorial Hall. He also pledged to expand support in the future. A total of 110 million won will be provided to the selected organizations, with each receiving between 5 million and 15 million won to carry out activities promoting compassionate sharing.
“The ultimate goal of Buddhism is for all sentient beings to attain enlightenment, and true enlightenment can only be achieved when both oneself and others are freed from suffering,” said Most Ven. Jinwoo. He added, “You are modern-day bodhisattvas practicing bodhisattva deeds within society.” He also promised that the Jogye Order would work together with the certificate recipients to promote social compassion through ongoing support and cooperation
“All phenomena are interconnected. If our neighbors are not at ease, neither can we,” emphasized Most Ven. Jinwoo. “Bringing comfort to those in need is the direct path to practicing Buddhist compassion.”
