The Jogye Order’s Office of Future Initiatives, led by Director Ven. Seongwon, announced on July 21 the results of its nationwide call for temples and institutions to host Seon Meditation programs aimed at promoting mental well-being and the practice of Seon meditation in daily life.
Numerous temples across the country applied, reflecting a growing interest in Seon meditation. Following internal review and evaluation, a total of 31 locations were selected.
Ahead of the program launch, the selected temples and institutions sent guiding monastics and staff members to attend a Seon Meditation Program Leadership Training Program held on July 17 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Buddhist Education Center at Jogyesa Temple.
Program graduates will begin offering introductory and experiential Seon meditation programs starting in late July, coinciding with the summer holiday season. Separate two-day, one-night Seon Meditation Templestay programs will be offered at specially designated temples by the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism.
The Office of Future Initiatives will support selected temples and institutions by providing promotional assistance, operational manuals, and, upon request, dispatching professional instructors. Detailed information on each temple’s Seon Meditation program and schedule will be announced separately on the official Seon Meditation website.
Ven. Seongwon, Director of the Office of Future Initiatives, stated,
“The selected temples will serve as hubs for making Seon meditation accessible to the public. We hope that many people will participate in the programs to find inner peace and join the path toward genuine happiness.”
