Tripitaka Koreana

Tripitaka Koreana, also known as the Eighty-thousand Tripitaka or  ‘Goryeo Daejanggyeong’  is a set of ancient Buddhist scripture woodblocks housed in Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon-gun County, Gyeongsannam-do Province. Venerated as the assemblage of Korean philosophical culture, the Tripitaka is desginated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, and also was listed on the UNESCO Memory of the World register in June 2007.

On the 1000th anniversary of the Tripitaka in the year 2011,  Haeinsa Temple hosted a 45-day festival from September 23rd to November 6th. A myriad of special exhibitions and programs are scheduled to be held in 2013 also in order to raise awareness of the meaning and value of the ancient woodcrafts, while sustaining the thousand-year-old wisdom of the Tripitaka in the new era.
