On Feb. 14th, to commemorate Daeboreum, the first full moon day of the lunar year, all temples, local Buddhist federations, and affiliated community welfare centers across the nation prepared cultural events so that the local people could get together and have fun by playing various traditional games. Hwagye-sa Temple in Seoul (Abbot: Ven. Suam) organized the "Bonfire Cultural Event 2014" for its local community. This bonfire made of pine boughs is the most typical traditional event held every Daeboreum in Korea, and has the meaning of dispelling all adversity from the previous year and praying to receive good fortune from the New Year. Participants at Hwagye-sa Temple spent an enjoyable time together with the bonfire praying for a propitious year. They also took part in lively music and dancing under the bright full moon of the 2014 New Year.
