Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Seungaksa
Seungaksa traces its beginnings to a group of around a dozen Korean Buddhists who, in 1987, formed this community out of a shared longing for the teachings of Buddha-dharma amidst the challenges of immigrant life. As the designated Los Angeles branch of Woljeong-sa Temple at Mt. Odae in Korea, Seungaksa has since redefined its role as a global hub for spreading Dharma. It upholds Woljeong-sa's millennia-old legacy rooted in the three core tenets of Buddhism—discipline, meditation, and wisdom. Seungaksa's mission revolves around reaffirming and firmly establishing Korean Buddhism within the United States and cultivating the next generation of Buddhists who will lead the globalization of Korean Buddhism.
