World’s leading Hollywood actor and Buddhist, Richard Gere will visit President of Jogyesa Temple, Ven. Ja-Seung this month.
Gear will arrive in Korea June 20th for his photo exhibition, which will take place between June14th through July 24th at the Seoul Arts Centre. Gere will pay homage at Jogyesa Temple on the next day, June 21st and meet with Ven. Ja-Seung. During his visit, Gear is expected to get a chance to experience Korean Buddhist culture.
Gere’s ’Pilgrim’ exhibition will display 64 photographic art work, captured during his travels to Tibet and Zaskar, India. In addition, this exhibition will display ‘Portfolio of Tibet’ photograph collection. This collection consists of great art work generously donated to New York Tibet House by 24 great photographers of this time. These artists are sympathizers of Gere on his international charity work.
In particular, critics reviewed Gere’s work very positively. “A beautiful Pilgrim’s journey to find the truth was displayed in a very calm and quiet tone. Beautiful scenery of Tibetan Himalayan regions and living images of pure Tibetan souls were shown through his work". Gere’s ’Pilgrim’ has been exhibited in 20 cities, in 11 countries around the world.
More than 30 year ago, Gere took refuge under the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, H. H. Dalai Lama. While continuing on with his Buddhist studies, Gere actively participated in various volunteer activities and human rights work, such as campaigns against AIDS. In order to protect Tibetans in their human rights and cultural preservation issues, Gere Co-founded Tibet House US and actively participates in international activities for Tibet (ICT). Gere addressed the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Congressional Human Rights Council, the U.S. House of Representatives, the European Parliament, and the UN Human Rights Council in direct support of Tibet and co-sponsored H.H. Dalai Lama’s 5 different visits to United States.
