1. On February 7th at 11 am on the 4th floor of the Memorial Hall of Korean Buddhist History and Culture, the Bureau of Missionary Activities of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism will hold a press conference to announce the official opening of its on-line International site, with the President of the Order Ven. Jigwan and Ven. Doyoung, the Executive Director of Missionary Activities of the Order.
2. The main purpose of this site is to lead the globalization of Ganhwaseon(Hwadu Meditation) and to improve the position of Korean Buddhism through popularizing Ganwhaseon. Since there have been few on-lines site providing systematic methods to practice Ganwhaseonand related contents so far, this site is expected to set the standard for sites related to Ganhwaseon. The International site will open an English site first on Feb. 7th and subsequently Chinese and Japanese sites by the end of February.
3. An example of the contents of this site, www.koreanbuddhism.net, is the abstract of a book called Ganhwaseon, published by the Jogye Order, which provides a guide to practice and has greatly attributed to a rise in strong interest in Ganwhaseon. Along with this guide to practicing Ganwhaseon, this site will also provide information about Korean temples and Seon Centers, and it will directly guide practice through answering questions. 4. There are various teams to work on the site, such as a team for translation and proof-reading and a team for consultation. Among the members of teams there are well-known scholars, monks and nuns, professors, and translators. Also, this site will be developed according to Web Standards, which is not common in Korea. That will make it possible to show the contents of the site quickly, even to countries using slower PC models and having a poor Internet environment. One more quality distinguishing this site is that it will provide an easier approach for some special cases, so if visually impaired people want to hear the contents, they can, with a screen reader program which will change text to voice.
