The city of Busan will host its first international Buddhism Expo from August 8 to 11, 2024, at BEXCO Exhibition Center (BEXCO) 1 and other locations throughout the city.
The 2024 Busan International Buddhism Expo plans to lay the foundation for Busan to become an international meditation city by developing differentiated content that can capture the needs of the young people in their 20s and 30s under the theme of 'K-Meditation Center, Busan's Buddhism and Meditation Culture Industry.’ 'Fun Buddhism Part 2' in particular is expected to bridge the gap between the MZ generation (collectively referring to Millennials and Generation Z) and the older generation, continuing the theme of ‘Fun Buddhism’ to be launched by the 'Fun Buddhism' program to be held as part of the 2024 Seoul International Buddhist Expo and combines the summer vacation with Buddhist culture.
The detailed programs include an experience zone that offers a variety of fun activities and firsthand experiences for the MZ generation so that they can familiarize themselves with Buddhism, lowering the entry barrier to meditation; a meditation culture and craft exhibition, where companies introduce products related to the Korean traditional Buddhist culture in one place; and a meditation art exhibition that explores the meaning of meditation in general and Seon in particular, which finds artistic expression through Buddhist art and traditional cultural works.
“By developing and promoting K-Meditation content, we seek to brand Busan as a center for the meditation industry and actively contribute to local economic revitalization and betterment of mental health,” said one of the organizers of the fair.
