The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism successfully concluded the “2024 Korea-U.S. Traditional Buddhist Culture Exchange: Peace of Mind, Peace of the World” from October 8 to 15.
On October 8, the delegation visited the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, presenting a proposal to establish a “World Meditation Day.” In the proposal, Venerable Jinwoo emphasized that “achieving sustainable peace and happiness for all cannot be accomplished through technological and institutional progress alone but must also include personal introspection.” He formally suggested establishing “World Meditation Day” as a solution.
The Jogye Order then visited the 9/11 Memorial Park in New York to honor not only the American victims of the 9/11 attacks but also all those worldwide who have suffered due to subsequent wars and terrorism. Through this visit, they underscored the importance of efforts toward global peace in remembrance of the tragic consequences of religious, cultural, and political conflicts.
On October 9, Venerable Jinwoo and other attending monks visited the Long Island Veterans Nursing Home in New York to express gratitude to Korean War veterans. The veterans, now elderly men in their 90s who fought in their youth, conveyed appreciation to the Jogye Order for remembering their sacrifices.
