Hall of Arhats (Nahan-jeon)

나한전

This is dedicated to arhats who have destroyed the three poisons of greed, hatred, and ignorance. The number of arhats represented in these halls can range from sixteen to eighteen to 500. Arhats are usually depicted in simple attire and in the form of monks. Arhats are the ideal of the early Buddhist era and modern Theravada Buddhism. Arhats emphasize the personal attainment of enlightenment.
