Jukbi (Seon stick)

죽비

The Jukbi, or Seon stick, comes in two sizes. The shorter Jukbi is used to announce the beginning and end of Seon meditation sessions while the longer one is used to prevent sleepiness during Seon meditation. They are also used during Dharma talks, meals and prostration practice. Seon sticks were originally made of bamboo, but recently, other kinds of wood are also used.
