On January 26, Bohyun Buddha Temple in Dallas, Texas in the United States, held a joint Lunar New Year service, attended by Ven. Jiam, the temple’s abbot, and the local Buddhist community.

Boyhun Buddha Temple was filled with laughter as the venerables and senior members of the temple gave New Year’s cash gifts to the children and ate tteokguk, sliced rice cake soup, to celebrate the Lunar New Year’s Day.

On the same day, the college students of the Youth Paramita Group also had a meeting. They learned about the Buddhist doctrine, meditation, and the tea ceremony, and had the opportunity to practice the six paramitas, especially generosity, the principle of benefiting all sentient beings by volunteering at nursing homes and other events.

The temple also hosted a series of prayer sessions from January 26 to February 2 to observe Ipchun (立春), which marks the beginning of spring in the traditional Korean calendar.
