The Foolish Traveler

by Gang Hyeon-mi (poet)

A traveler came upon the Ganges River.
There was a raft without an owner,
so he was able to cross safely to the other side.
He felt so grateful to the raft that he took it on his back for his travels.
People called him the foolish traveler.

If we examine ourselves,
are we not the foolish traveler,
living with so many things on our backs
that we should leave behind.
