Seukwangsa Buddhist Temple

Seomi-sa Temple was founded in 1983 by Ven. Ilmyeon who had been actively involved in the Tacoma area. It became an important destination for Korean Buddhists seeking to participate in various Buddhist holidays and festivals, including Buddha's Birthday and All Soul’s Day Festival. Notably, people traveled to Seomi-sa from the Vancouver area, where Korean temples were scarce. Responding to the requests of Buddhists who felt the absence of a temple in Vancouver, Tongdo-sa Temple in Korea provided support in acquiring the site for what is now Seukwangsa Buddhist Temple. The temple opened its doors in 1996, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the main Buddha hall taking place in 1998. Today, Seukwangsa Buddhist Temple serves as a refuge for Buddhists living in Vancouver and those passing through the area. The temple conducts a variety of services, including the Sunday Dharma service, attended by approximately 30 individuals each week, children's Dharma services, and the monthly Dharma assembly held on the first day of each lunar month
