Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Hanmaum Seon Center of Toronto
The Hanmaum Seon Center of Toronto is situated in Koreatown, not far from downtown Toronto. The center's establishment in Toronto traces back to 1992 when Choi Yeong-sik, a lay Buddhist, harbored the aspiration to create a Buddhist temple in the city. With the support of Master Daehaeng, the center acquired the building of the former Korean American Center of Toronto in 1996. Following the acquisition, renovations were undertaken and the center was open with a great Dharma assembly and the ceremony to enshrine a Buddha statue, complete with the traditional eye-dotting ritual. Since then, the Hanmaum Seon Center of Toronto has actively promoted Korean Buddhism in the Toronto area. They conduct regular Sunday Dharma services with an average of about 30 participants and also operate a Korean language school.
