GAMROSA

Gamrosa Buddhist Temple was established in 2002 by the lay Buddhist community in Tucson. The temple's name, "Gamro," signifies the nectar of immortality, a name bestowed by a venerable from Seonwun-sa Temple in Gochang, Korea. He suggested this name as Arizona's arid climate could benefit from such nourishment. On May 7, 2007, Gamrosa Temple gained recognition as the Arizona branch of Tongdo-sa Temple, a part of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, with Ven. Jungwu, the abbot of Tongdo-sa, serving as its senior teacher. As the sole Jogye Order temple in Arizona, a state known for its meditation and retreat centers, Gamrosa Temple conducts regular Sunday Dharma services with an average of 20 attendees. Additionally, it hosts the Dharma assembly on the first day of each lunar month and a monthly service dedicated to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. The temple actively facilitates lay Buddhist gatherings and runs local sponsorship programs aimed at assisting vulnerable individuals.
