Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Mountain Spirit Center
The Mountain Spirit Center, established in 1993 by Ven. Muryang, a disciple of Master Seung Sahn, embodies traditional Korean mountain temple architecture, with timbers crafted by Korean carpenters invited from Korea. The temple's Buddha hall is adorned with dancheong, showcasing multi-colored designs on the exterior, a hallmark of traditional Korean structures. Situated approximately two hours northeast of Los Angeles, the center emerges as you journey through the Mojave Desert. On the second Sunday of each month, the Mountain Spirit Center operates a shuttle bus to accommodate visitors attending the regular Dharma service. As a branch temple of Sudeok-sa Temple in the 7th district of the Jogye Order in Korea, the Mountain Spirit Center stands as a five-star tourist attraction in Tehachapi. It distinguishes itself by environmentally conscious practices, harnessing solar power for electricity and relying on underground water sources. Additionally, the center offers a woodland burial service, exemplifying its commitment to ecological awareness and sustainability.
