Bupwangsah was established in 1986 in Garden Grove, Orange County, California, USA, under the guidance of Ven. Hyunil. The temple conducts a variety of activities, including Sunday Dharma services attended by over 70 participants, and a Sunday school for children where they learn the Korean language, art, and Buddhist philosophy. Additionally, the temple hosts special events like the New Year's Day prayer session and conducts outdoor Dharma assemblies twice a year, during the spring and fall seasons.
