Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
International Buddhist Meditation Temple of New Zealand
The International Buddhist Meditation Temple of New Zealand was accredited as a religious organization by Waitakere City in April 2004, with authority delegated from the New Zealand federal government. The temple's establishment was initiated when the late Master Ilta, jeongye daehwasang, a revered figure of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, visited New Zealand. During his visit, he listened to the heartfelt desires of local Buddhists yearning for a Korean Buddhist temple in the country. Master Ilta strongly expressed his wish for the presence of the Buddha's teachings in New Zealand and guided the sangha, ultimately leading to the founding of the International Buddhist Meditation Temple of New Zealand by his disciples upholding his aspiration.
