Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Hongbubwon
Hongbubwon, officially known as the "Hongbubwon of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in Taiwan," is currently registered with the Taiwan government under the name "Taiwan Hongbubwon Buddhist Society." Situated in Xinbei (New Taipei City), it maintains its distinction as the only Korean temple in Taiwan. The temple's roots trace back to 1980 when Ven. Beopsan, the former chairman of Dongguk University, began his studies in Taiwan and established the temple as a small place for his academic pursuits. With the dedicated efforts of the late Ven. Jian, strong support from the local Buddhist community, and the dedication of resident monks, the temple has firmly secured its presence. Although its ceremonies are relatively small-scale, the temple conducts regular Dharma services typically attended by around 10 participants. In April 2020, it obtained official registration with the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, further solidifying its status as the sole Korean temple in Taiwan.
