Bultasa

Bultasa conducted its first Dharma service officiated Ven. Jihak in 1974. The service took place in a residential apartment located in Chicago's Logan Square and was attended by 23 participants. In June 1986, the temple acquired two commercial buildings at its present location. Bultasa's current premises encompass a land area of 1,700 square meters, featuring a two-story building with a total floor area of 1,500 square meters. In 1989, the temple extended an invitation to Master Seung Sahn, who presided over the ceremony to enshrine the Buddha statue in the main Buddha hall. The event also included the traditional eye-dotting ritual and the dedication of a thousand Buddha statues to the temple. Bultasa's growth has been continuous, driven by the dedicated efforts of both monastic sangha members and lay Buddhists. The temple conducts its weekly Dharma service on Sundays, attracting approximately 40 participants. Additionally, there is an English Zen practice group with around 10 members. Bultasa also fosters a children's group, albeit small in size, and is home to the Bultasa choir and a traditional Korean music ensemble. The temple also operates a Korean language school, open every Saturday.
