Mumunsa

Mumunsa, founded in 1983 when Ven. Seokdoman became the abbot, was created by merging Goryesa and Seonguksa in the area. Its name, "Mumun," signifying "No Gate," was chosen for the new temple to encourage the opening of one's mind's door, dismantling gates of attachments, obstacles, and delusions in pursuit of the gateless path of Dharma. Initially situated in Troy for approximately three years, Mumunsa relocated to the present location in Rochester Hills in 1989 after much trial and error. The temple is celebrated for its practices centered on repentance prayers and meditation. It conducts regular Sunday and Tuesday Dharma services and organizes an annual open-air Dharma assembly on the last Monday of each year to instruct and unite lay Buddhists. Furthermore, it arranges semi-annual golf tournaments that engage the entire local Korean community.
