Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Korean Buddhist Wonkaksa
Korean Buddhist Wonkaksa in New York, a branch temple of Korea's Tongdo-sa Temple in Korea, was established in Manhattan in 1974 by Master Seung Sahn. In 1986, the temple relocated and constructed its current complex on a spacious 260-acre site in Salisbury Mills, known for its highly auspicious feng shui and environmentally favorable conditions. In 2004, Ven. Asan Jeongu became the abbot, and since 2011, the current abbot has led efforts to create the largest Korean Buddhist temple in the Mid-Atlantic, adhering to traditional architectural styles. The main Buddha hall opened in 2015, and the temple is currently building the Pureland hall and two meditation halls. It hosts Sunday services with about 100 attendees and organizes gatherings for young Buddhists, focusing on Buddhist teachings and meditation.
