Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Kwanumsa
Kwanumsa, a branch temple of Gakwon-sa Temple in Cheonan, Chungcheong-do Province, Korea, was established in the United States in 1992. This endeavor was made possible by the efforts of devoted lay Buddhists who pooled their resources to acquire the current building. Kwanumsa observes various ceremonies and rituals following the Korean Buddhist calendar, including the festivities of Ipchun (the beginning of spring), Buddha's Birthday, and All Souls' Day (Ullambane). At its inception, Kwanumsa had 32 participating families, which has now grown to over 100. Today, the temple is one of the key centers for Korean Buddhism in the mid-Atlantic region, serving communities in Philadelphia and its surrounding areas.
