Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Gosung Monastery
Gosung Monastery, established in April 2016, is situated atop a mountain at an elevation of approximately 1,000 meters above sea level in Livermore, California, within the San Francisco East Bay area. It holds official registration as a religious organization with the state government. The monastery's founder, Ven. Jinwol, derived its name from "Go-," a reference to Master Goam, a former supreme patriarch of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, and "-sung," which honors Master Yongsung. At Gosung Monastery, visitors have the opportunity to engage in Seon meditation, where they face a wall for their practice. Additionally, the monastery facilitates two-way Dharma talks. The temple also extends its reach into the digital realm by actively participating in various Dharma propagation activities through online platforms, including the Internet and social media. This approach enables the monastery to transcend physical boundaries and connect with a broader audience.
