Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
Korea Sri Lanka Cultural and Social Welfare Foundation
Jogye Order Welfare Town is a facility founded by the Korea-Sri Lanka Culture and Social Welfare Foundation. Witnessing the devastation caused by the tsunami that hit Sri Lanka in December 2004, the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism launched a nationwide relief fundraising campaign and, in 2005, established the welfare foundation in the Pahalal region of Sri Lanka. The position of the foundation's chairman is concurrently held by the president of the Jogye Order. The welfare town is officially recognized as an NGO by the Ministry of Social Empowerment and Welfare of Sri Lanka. At present, Doseon-sa Temple is entrusted with the management of the welfare town, which spans 80,000 square meters and includes buildings covering approximately 2,000 square meters. The facilities within the welfare town encompass Samadhi Children’s Home, Samadhi Kindergarten, and a farm. This welfare town functions as a central hub for cultural and Buddhist exchanges between Korea and Sri Lanka. It promotes Korean Buddhist practices and carries out various welfare programs aimed at assisting underprivileged Sri Lankan Buddhist children.
